Aha! Finally, I made my way to the Jewish Museum of Turkey--third time is a charm! At the entrance, the guard got his knickers in a twist because I didn't know to sign in. He made such a fuss about me that he wasn't able to harangue the group of five who walked right in behind me. Then, the other guard at the metal detector was also the attendant for the ticket office. The group of five paid together, but somehow the guard thought I was part of their group. I tried to explain in Turkish that I was separate and backed up a little to distance myself from their group, and set off the alarm of the metal detector behind me. Duh. One of the other group was particularly antsy about the guard's misunderstanding and raised her voice, "NOT HER!" Lady, get a grip--shouting in English is not going to help here. Once that circus act ended, we entered the museum, and another guard said, "Sorry, air conditioner broke ten minutes ago." I think he meant ten hours ago. It was a sauuuuuuuuuna. I looked carefully at the artifacts, but I couldn't stay longer to read any of the historical explanation. There was a basement exhibit, which was a life-saver. If I ever go back, it will be in the dead of winter.

The SALT Galata building is just up the hill from the museum; I knew it was totally climate controlled, and that the library should be open today. I cooled off there with some excellent reading material and free wifi internet--much better!

First I noticed the style of the apartment, but I took the close-up for Alex
